About Pitfire Pizza

Pitfire Artisan Pizza stands as a pioneering establishment in the artisanal pizza movement, having been founded in 1997 by Paul Hibler and David Sanfield in North Hollywood, California.[1][2] The restaurant chain has since become a cornerstone of Southern California’s casual dining scene, with the Pasadena location situated at 730 South Arroyo Parkway serving as a testament to the founders’ vision of creating accessible yet sophisticated pizza experiences. This particular outpost represents the eighth location in the Pitfire empire and occupies the space of a former Sizzler restaurant, which underwent a complete transformation to reflect the brand’s modern aesthetic and culinary philosophy.[4]

The Pasadena Pitfire location embodies a laid-back atmosphere with a distinctly trendy vibe that appeals to both casual diners and food enthusiasts seeking quality ingredients and innovative flavor combinations. The restaurant’s design features an airy and spacious interior complete with communal tables, high ceilings, and wide aisles that accommodate diverse dining groups, from families with young children to groups of friends gathering for a meal.[4] The centerpiece of the dining space is an eye-catching red Mugnaini wood-fired oven, which serves as both a functional cooking instrument and a visual focal point that underscores the restaurant’s commitment to traditional pizza-making techniques.[4]

Pitfire’s menu showcases the restaurant’s dedication to fresh, seasonally driven ingredients prepared with meticulous attention to detail. The establishment is renowned for its rustic pizzas cooked in the wood-fired pit, which impart distinctive flavors and textures that distinguish Pitfire’s offerings from conventional pizza establishments.[5] Beyond pizza, the menu extends to include creative pasta dishes and panini sandwiches, providing diverse options for patrons with varying preferences. Signature offerings like the Barata pie, developed approximately eight years prior to the Pasadena opening, demonstrate the restaurant’s ability to create memorable dishes that resonate with customers across multiple locations.[3] Seasonal menu items, such as the Fall Farmers Market Plate featuring roasted mushrooms with herbed citrus bread crumbs, ginger tomato jam, ricotta, roasted brussels sprouts with salsa verde, and chile roasted pumpkin with garlic oil, showcase the kitchen’s commitment to incorporating fresh produce and innovative flavor pairings.[4]

The beverage program at Pitfire complements the food offerings with a carefully curated selection of beer and wine options, allowing guests to enhance their dining experience through thoughtful pairings. The service model operates on a fast-casual basis, where customers place orders at the front counter and receive their food when ready, creating an efficient yet personable dining experience that respects both time and quality.[4]

Located in Pasadena at 730 South Arroyo Parkway, Pitfire Artisan Pizza can be reached at +1 626-376-9005 for reservations, inquiries, or takeout orders. The restaurant’s success in Pasadena reflects the broader expansion strategy of American Gonzo Food Corp, the parent company that also operates Superba Snacks + Coffee and The Win-Dow burger destination, demonstrating a commitment to elevating casual dining throughout Southern California through thoughtfully executed concepts and unwavering attention to ingredient quality and culinary craftsmanship.

Subpar pizza. Burnt bread, doughy / soggy crust, lack of cheese & too much honey. Ranch was good! Wood fired should be crispy no?

Love the vibe, LOVE the pizza and PASTA. I was skeptical when my sister said we’re going to pizza place to get pasta but man I was wrong. The rigitoni pink pasta was SPECTACULAR. We inhaled it so fast. The lemonade was good - not super sugary. Highly recommend if you’re looking for solid pizza and pasta. I got the honey bear pizza. Not sure why the other reviews are talking about burnt pizza but, mine was totally fine.

Definitely a busy place which has a more family targeted audience. You order at the counter (almost self service style) and then you are given a number and you search for a table to sit . This part of the experience was not what I was expecting as I am more familiar with sit down assigned tables . The business model is new to me . Alcohol is served at the bar and ordered during initial order placement . A shoutout to the lady taking out order , as you can opt for a larger pour of wine for an additional $5 . This is a great approach that other places should adapt . After finding a table we sat down and waited for food to arrive. In reality this business model does seem to cater more to a family based audience and where the staff is not assigned a particular table . This may increase speed and efficiency perhaps . Pizza is good , decent flavorful but nothing extraordinary. Brussels sprouts as an appetizer we also good though a bit oily . It does get a bit loud in the restaurant but it is also pretty busy and tables rotate fast . The tables get noisy and it’s hard to carry a conversation. Parking was not too hard as they have a lot in the back of the restaurant. While not my nu

On my first visit to Pitfire, it was a great experience. The staff was friendly and I got my order in quickly. At lunch the food also came out quickly, and was fresh and flavorful. I had the Margherita pizza and loved the addition of the Calabrian chilis to the traditional pie.
